Unicameral Government?

March 1, 2006

Napatigil ako sa sa pagkain ko habang pinapanood ang debate sa kongreso kaugnay ng House Resolution 1169. The resolution will provide protective custody by the House to the 6 party-list representatives (i.e. Rep. Satur Ocampo, Rep. Teddy Casiño, Rep. Rafael Mariano, Rep. Liza Masa & Rep. Crispin Beltran) being charge with rebellion.

Rep. Satur Ocampo reiterated their right for Preliminary Investigation, but what catches my attention was the [part of the] speech given by Makati Representative Teddy “Boy” Locsin,

“Your duty Mr. Speaker is not to negotiate the surrender of this House. Your duty Mr. Speaker is to defend the integrity & independence of this House. [itilized mine]

Alam naman natin na sunod-sunuran kay GMA si Pong Pagong [diba kamukha ni JDV si Pong], with his eye focused on the Presidency [or Prime Minister kung mababago ang Constitution], he will do anything to please the Palace.

But that’s not how the system must work, even in time of National Emergency, the autonomy of the Congress & the Judiciary must remain, thus the immunity from suit of any member of the House [both Congress] must remain and must be respected.

For God’s sake, we are not a Unicameral Government, ang alam ko hindi pa inaamin ni GMA na diktador siya. Let us enjoy the little democratic space that we [still] have.
